Yuki Cross
Yuki Cross (黒主 優姫, Kurosu Yūki?) is the female protagonist of Vampire Knight. The adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, Yuki is a first year student and a member of the school's disciplinary committee, which means secretly acting as a Guardian for Cross Academy by monitoring and protecting the Day Class from the Night Class. She is generally a cheerful and comedic character, but has a fear of vampires that means she rarely leaves the Cross Academy grounds on her own.[1] She wields the Artemis Rod, the anti-vampire weapon which later transforms into a scythe.
When Yuki was about five years old, Rido Kuran attacked the Kuran family while seeking to take Yuki, whose existence had been hidden from the world as much as possible. To protect her daughter, Juuri sacrificed herself to seal Yuki's vampire side and erased her daughter's memory; Yuki's first memory from that point on was of Kaname saving her from a vampire; she grew up harboring deep feelings for him. The two had a close relationship until she witnesses his vampire nature as he fed on a vampire classmate — as a human, Yuki believed that she had no chance of being with Kaname and began to distance herself out of fear, though maintained her attraction to him. After being adopted by Kaien Cross, Yuki has troubling recurring nightmares until Zero joins their household and she forms a strong attachment to him.
After Yuki discovers that Zero has awakened as a vampire and is struggling with his bloodlust, she allows him to secretly feed on her blood. In order to prevent Zero from running away, Yuki promises to be his ally and that she will kill him if he becomes a level E vampire. Though Yuki is aware of Zero's hatred of vampires, she comes to realize he despises himself more than anyone as he slowly succumbs into what he hates most. When Shizuka Hio offers to save Zero at the price of Yuki's humanity, Yuki agrees, though is stopped by Zero.
Troubled by the gap in her memory, Yuki attempts to ask Kaname to reveal what he knows about her past. When he offers to provide her an answer if she becomes his lover, Yuki agrees, but ends up trying to remember her forgotten past on her own when Kaname does not give her an answer. Her recurring nightmares return and Kaname eventually bites Yuki to reawaken her true nature as a pureblood vampire and has her drink his blood to restore her complete memories. She is revealed to be Kaname's sister and intended fiancée. Returning to her vampire self, Yuki exhibits an uncontrolled return of her vampire powers and physical changes. She chooses to break off her friendship with Zero, aware of the new antagonism between them, and begins to sense Rido's dangerous revival. Though Kaname attempts to remove her from danger, she refuses to leave Cross Academy and convinces him to leave and continue his own mission while kissing him and assuring him that she will return to him. Deciding to fight Rido, Yuki's Artemis Rod transforms as it tries to reject her vampire nature, and turns into a scythe.
Upon confronting Rido, Yuki nearly falls prey to his words, saved only by Zero interrupting in his own attempt to kill Rido. Though they are now enemies, Yuki reaffirms her vow to be Zero's ally. As Zero attempts to remove her from the fight, Yuki manages to score the killing blow on her uncle. However, Zero turns on her afterwards, still intending to kill her and all pureblood vampires, before Kaname interrupts and leaves Yuki and Zero to bid their farewells. Zero bites and kisses Yuki while confessing his romantic feelings for her, to which she seems to show no reaction, announcing that she desires no one's blood but Kaname's. As they part, Zero tells Yuki to go to Kaname but that he will kill her the next time he sees her; Yuki replies that she will continue running from him, so that he will have a reason to live. After they part, Yuki breaks down in tears and comes to realize her sadness of being Zero's enemy, but knows that her true self is a vampire and conceals her feelings. As she leaves the academy with Kaname, she Zero carrying Ichiru's dead bodyZero Kiryu
Zero Kiryu (錐生 零, Kiryū Zero
?) is one of the male protagonists of Vampire Knight. Yuki's close friend and the only other Cross Academy Guardian, Zero descends from a noted family of vampire hunters and was trained to be a Vampire Hunter by Toga Yagari. Zero carries an anti-vampire gun named "Bloody Rose," given to him by Kaien Cross. His powers include accelerated healing, vampire detection, ability to withstand pureblood compulsion and most recently the ability to manipulate vines within his body that are an extension of the Bloody Rose.[2]
Four years ago, Zero was taken in by Kaien Cross as the sole survivor of a murderous attack on his family by Shizuka Hio. Zero was bitten during the attack and spent the last four years resisting turning into a vampire — the tattooed symbol on his neck helped suppress the vampire transformation. Due to the attack, Zero developed a deep hatred and distrust of vampires. He kept his vampire secret even from Yuki until bloodlust overwhelmed him and he bit her. Filled with self-loathing, Zero attempts to run away but is stopped by Yuki, who pledges to kill Zero should he fall to level E. To further ensure Zero's vampire nature remains controlled, the headmaster provides Yuki with a bracelet that reacts with Zero's tattoo and paralyzes him.[3] Despite these measures, Zero's body rejects the blood tablets used to sate a vampire's thirst and Yuki convinces Zero to continue drinking her blood.
While Zero harbours romantic feelings for Yuki, he supports her feelings for Kaname Kuran, in particular because Zero is gradually becoming a level E vampire. He is protective of Yuki, preventing her from trading her humanity to Shizuka Hio in exchange for preventing his degenerating into a Level E vampire, swearing never to allow Yuki to become a vampire; knowing this, Kaname Kuran allows Zero to live because Zero would do anything to protect Yuki. However, with Shizuka's death, Zero is forced to drink the blood of a pureblood, Kaname, to delay becoming a level E vampire. Following Zero's discovery that Yuki is actually a pureblood vampire, Zero and Yuki severs their friendship, with Yuki revealing that her vampire side "ate" her other side.
Though Zero is able to maintain his sanity after drinking Kaname's blood, the Hunters Association arrange his arrest and lock him up. During this time, Kaname reveals that his purpose in strengthening Zero is in order for him to protect Yuki and defeat Rido Kuran. Soon afterward, Zero is shot by his twin brother and finally completes the Twin Hunter fragment after he is convinced to "eat" the dying Ichiru. With this act, as a twin vampire hunter of an excellent lineage who has become a vampire and carrying the blood of three purebloods (Yuki, Kaname and by proxy Shizuka
[4]), Zero becomes one of the most powerful characters appearing in the series.
Interrupting the battle between Yuki and Rido, Zero declares his former friend his enemy, though they are able to work together and defeat Rido. Zero reveals his intention to kill all pureblood vampires including Yuki, but finds that he cannot bring himself to kill her. Because of his own lingering attachment to her and as someone who made him feel safe, he finds such an act cruel and reveals that he would not mind if Yuki killed him at that moment. However, when Kaname enters the scene, Zero does not hesitate to entangle him with the Bloody Rose, reasserting his desire to "exterminate all the purebloods." Zero realizes that Yuki should be with Kaname; he kisses her and Yuki assures him that she no longer has any worries about the future. As they part ways, Zero tells Yuki he will find her and kill her, and Yuki in turn says she will wait until that day. As Yuki leaves the Academy, they see each other as Zero carries Ichiru's dead body.
Sayori Wakaba
Sayori "Yori" Wakaba (若葉 沙頼, Wakaba Sayori
?) is Yuki's dorm-mate and best friend since junior high. Yori is a very perceptive girl who finds the aura of the Night Class to be scary. She is one of the few girls with no interest in the Night Class and not intimidated by Zero, frequently joining Yuki to tease him while maintaining that Yuki is the only one capable of dealing with him. Then Yori discovers that Yuki is a vampire during the attack on the school, but she accepts Yuki as she is and appears to be more worried over that fact that she would lose her best friend. Because of the recent events at Cross Academy, she is taken to a safe place by Aidou on Yuki's orders. When Aido appears before the Day Class after they are saved from enemy vampires, Sayori takes the initiative to thank him for saving them.Night ClassKaname Kuran
Kaname Kuran (玖蘭 枢, Kuran Kaname
?) is another male protagonist and is the pureblood vampire who saved Yuki from an attack by another vampire when she was five years old. He is the class president of the Night Class, both feared and respected by the other Night Class students. As a pureblood, he is capable of controlling lesser vampires, but chooses not to exercise his powers, thus earning the respect of other noble vampires. Kaname shares the Chairman's hopes for a peace between vampires and humans and worked with the Chairman to create the Night Class at Cross Academy. Despite Zero's distrust, Kaname's presence keeps the Night Class in check. Normally a stoic and authoritive individual, Kaname's kind and gentle attitude toward Yuki has puzzled his fellow vampires. He expresses discontent with Zero for biting Yuki and endangering her life. Kaname tells Zero that he only allows Zero's existence by Yuki's side to ensure her safety and is envious that he cannot protect her himself. He eventually reveals to Yuki that he loves her. [5]
As he kills Shizuka Hio, Kaname promises her that he will destroy the being that ruined the destiny of the purebloods and drinks her blood in order to gain power to protect Yuki, though he leaves some of her blood to save Zero. Kaname makes repeated offers to Yuki to allow her to remain by his side, including offering to make her a vampire and asking her to become his lover when she presses him for information concerning her forgotten past. He also convinces Zero to drink his blood to stave off insanity, slowing Zero's descent to a Level E vampire. Kaname eventually reveals that this act was one of many steps required to prepare and strengthen Zero so that he can kill Rido and free the Kuran's Clan from Rido's existence.
As Rido's presence becomes increasingly apparent, Kaname bites Yuki in order to awaken her vampire nature and feeds her his blood to restore her memories as a Kuran and as his sister. He reveals to Takuma Ichijo that he is not Yuki's true brother, but the first king and founder of the Kuran family who had been revived by Rido Kuran. As such, Kaname is unable to kill Rido, his "master", and was only able to severely injure and incapacitate him when he tried to take Yuki from the Kuran family. As a child, Juri and Haruka Kuran raised Kaname as Yuki's brother, in place of the son that Rido took, and Yuki and Kaname planned to marry when they were children, following the example of Juri and Haruka who were also brother and sister but still married.
When Rido is revived, Kaname plans to take Yuki away from Cross Academy, fearing for Yuki's life. Yuki's refusal to comply with his plan upsets him, but she kisses him to console him and convinces him to leave her and complete his mission. He goes to the Vampire Council and kills all the summoned members except Asato Ichijo. Kaname confronts Zero and tries to kill him for pointing the Bloody Rose at Yuki. He restrains after Yuki tells him not to kill Zero, and leaves for Yuki and Zero to say their farewells, but Zero tells Yuki that he will soon come back to kill her. Yuki says she will be waiting for him to do so, and leaves with Kaname as plannedTaku
ma Ichijo
Takuma Ichijo (一条 拓麻, Ichijo Takuma
?
) is the vice-president of the Night Class. He is a noble-class vampire nearly as powerful as Kaname, whom he is close to and respects. With his cheerful and enthusiastic demeanor, Ichijo appears very un-vampire like, lacking the dark atmosphere that surrounds most vampires and making him appear more like a human. His favorite reading material is manga. Ichijo maintains a close friendship with Senri Shiki, whose great-uncle is also a member of the council, and is a good friend to Rima Touya.
Educated by a grandfather with high expectations for him, Ichijo is ordered by his grandfather to spy on Kaname while attending Cross Academy; he refuses out of loyalty for his friend and attempts to break away of his grandfather's intentions. When Senri Shiki is possessed by Rido Kuran, Ichijo is forced to go against Kaname in order to protect his friends. Once Shiki is freed from Rido's possession, Ichijo rejoins Kaname's side and stops Kaname from killing his grandfather, instead asking that he be the one to handle the issue. It is strongly hinted at that Takuma intended to end his life along with his grandfather, saying "Together, let us put an end to the Ichijo line." But it is revealed that he never got his wish, as he was discovered unconscious afterwards by Sara Shirabuki, one of the only known Pureblood vampires, who said that she always wanted "to have" Takuma, as though he were simply a doll or a toy. He was currently in the hands of Sara Shirabuki, who is using him to get information about Kaname.
Hanabusa Aido
Hanabusa Aido (藍堂 英, Aidō Hanabusa
?), nicknamed "Idol" by the Day Class girls, is known among the Night Class along with his cousin Akatsuki Kain to be "Kaname-sama's right hand". His fierce admiration for Kaname borders on zealousness and though extremely loyal to him, Aido has a tendency to overstep his boundaries, which results in Kaname punishing him if discovered. A noble-class vampire who can conjure and control ice, Aido often appears cheerful and friendly one moment, but vindictive and cruel the next. A perceptive individual, he figures out Zero is a vampire, but he keeps this information to himself without any hidden agenda in mind.
Aido is not overly fond of Yuki and dislikes the attention that Kaname gives her. He is temporarily troubled when he witnesses Kaname's killing of a fellow pureblood and runs away from the Moon Dormitory and imposes himself on Yuki and Zero. Agreeing with Yuki's assertion that he would remain loyal to Kaname even if betrayed by Kaname, he returns to the vampire's side. Aido has difficulty adjusting himself to referring to Yuki in a formal manner following the revelation of her true nature when he is appointed as one of her protectors.
During Rido's attack on Cross Academy, Aido protects the Day Class, as ordered by Yuki. Half a year after the incident, Aido becomes Yuki's tutor.
Akatsuki Kain
Akatsuki Kain (架院 暁, Kain Akatsuki
?) is Aido's cousin and considered one of "Kaname-sama's right hands". While the Day Class girls have nicknamed him "Wild", Kain is actually mellower than Aido and his layback attitude and association with Aido frequently sees him getting into trouble, despite not being directly responsible.[6] He refers to Kaname as their "gang leader".[7]
Kain is incredibly perceptive and frequently sensitive to others' feelings, most particularly with Aido and Ruka's. While he initially suspects that Zero has killed Shizuka, he instantly realizes that was not what had transpired. Kain's ability as a vampire is the opposite of Aido's, the ability to conjure and control fire. Kain has feelings for Ruka, often appearing at her side when she is feeling down about Kaname's unwillingness to accept her feelings.
During Rido's attack on Cross Academy, Kain and Ruka fight vampires attacking the Day Class on Yuki's orders.
Ruka Souen
Ruka Souen (早園 瑠佳, Sōen Ruka
?
) is a female vampire popular with the Day Class students and one of those who are the most faithful and protective of Kaname. She is a childhood friend to Kaname, Ichijo, Aido, and Kain.
Ruka appears to dislike Yuki because Kaname loves her while Ruka's own strong feelings for him remain unreciprocated. It was expressed in a flashback that even before she met Kaname, she had always had feelings for him to the extent of wanting to give him her blood. However, the only time he ever drank her blood was to protect Yuki from his urge to bite her, and he has since politely refused to drink it. Ruka is upset when Kaname chooses Yuki to be his lover, but finally accepts her when she discovers that Yuki is Kaname's pureblood sister, even having Aido give Yuki a pair of shoes to wear. Recognizing the foolishness of her obsessive feelings for Kaname, Ruka shows that while she remains as dedicated as ever to him, she is able to do so calmly and with a mature level-headed attitude.
During Rido's attack on Cross Academy, Ruka works with Kain to defend girls in the Day Class. In the anime, she possesses the ability of mind control. Despite her apparent dislike of humans, Ruka truly does care for their safety and is adamant about protecting them from vampires.Senri Shiki
Senri Shiki (支葵 千里, Shiki Senri
?) is one of the youngest Night Class members and works as a model with Rima Toya. When the Night Class is given orders to hunt down a level E vampire, Shiki is usually the one sent out hunting the level E vampires. He is able to control and bend his blood at will.
Senri also cares for Rima and they seem to be really close. In one of the episodes he was at the Vampire ball and his Uncle said that he was too skinny, when the conversation finished he turned around quite shocked to see that Rima was offering to feed him. He also cares for his room-mate and best friend, Ichijou.
Shiki's father is Rido Kuran, making him Kaname and Yuki's cousin, and his mother's uncle is part of the council. His mother was also a former actress, making the Shiki family well known. As part of a plan to resurrect himself, Rido possesses his son's body, though for Shiki to reassert himself is easier than he lets on. During Rido's fight against Rima, Shiki is able to awaken within himself and attempt to regain control of his body.
After Rido's revival, Shiki regained consciousness and after recalling the events that had taken place, apologizes to an unconscious Rima for letting Rido use his body and embraces her. He protects Rima from a servant of Rido and, as she regains consciousness, carries Rima away from the Moon Dormitory before it collapses. As Shiki escapes, he sees his father one last time before Rido's death. He goes looking for Ichijou with Rima. When Ichijou does not come back to the others.Rima Toya
Rima Toya (遠矢 莉磨, Tōya Rima
?) is one of the youngest Night Class students and she works as a model alongside Senri Shiki. The relationship with Shiki is unknown, though they are almost always seen together. She cares deeply for Shiki and possesses a personality similar to his. As a vampire, Rima possesses lightning or electricity related abilities.[8]
After suspecting Shiki has changed upon his return to school, she confronts Rido and tells him to leave Shiki's body since she can tell that he is not Shiki. She is wounded by Rido, but is saved by Ichijo. While injured, she tries to convince Shiki to snap out of his state and calls him an idiot for letting Rido control him. Badly wounded, she is sent back to the Moon Dormitory by Ichijo. Protected by Shiki, she later awakens and they are forced to leave because of the building's collapse. She later helps Shiki in his search for Ichijo.

Night of the Vampires""Vanpaia no Naito" (ヴァンパイアの夜)
Yuki Cross recalls her earliest memories in which she is attacked by a vampire, and saved by the pureblood vampire Kaname Kuran. In the present, she attends the Cross Academy, a school founded by her adoptive father, Kaien Cross, and she works as a "guardian" with vampire hunter Zero Kiryu to protect the human students of the "Day Class" from the vampires of the "Night Class", an arrangement created by Kaien to foster better relations between vampires and humans. That evening, Yuki discovers a pair of Night Class students, Hanabusa Aido and Akatsuki Kain, threatening to feed on a pair of Day Class students. Yuki attempts to stop them, and they retreat only after Zero arrives and threatens them with his anti-vampire gun, Bloody Rose.
"Memory of Blood""Chi no Memorī" (血の記憶)
On Valentine's Day, Yuki and Zero are forced to organize the exchanging of gifts between the Day Class and Night Class members, a process made difficult by the fact that most of the Day Class is enamored with members of the Night Class. After the Night Class students receive all their presents, Yuki gives a present to Kaname, who takes her present after discarding all the other gifts he received. That evening, Zero is attacked by several Night Class students, including Hanabusa and Akatsuki, and they retreat after realizing that attacking him would incur Kaname's anger. Afterwards, Yuki finds Zero in a bathroom, and gives him a chocolate she made herself.

"Fangs of Repentance""Sange no Fangu" (懺悔の牙)
Zero and Yuki are assigned to inspect the Night and Day Class dorms for any banned items. During her inspection of Zero's room, Yuki discovers Zero's tablets, something the Night Class students take to quench their thirst for blood, and Zero flees to the nearby town. Following Zero, Yuki encounters a young boy who leads her deeper into the town. Revealing that he is a vampire, the boy bites Yuki, and she is attacked by another vampire. Both of the vampires are dispatched by Zero and Kaname, who reveals that they are Level E vampires, degenerate vampires consumed by their thirst for blood. At the school, Yuki finds Zero in a corridor, where he loses control at the scent of her blood and bites her, revealing that he is a vampire.

"Trigger of Conviction""Danzai no Torigā" (断罪の銃爪)
Kaname tends to the bite marks Zero gave Yuki, and Kaien explains that Zero's family was attacked by a pureblood vampire,
Shizuka Hio, who killed Zero's parents and turned Zero into a vampire. That evening, she overhears a conversation between Kaname and Kaien discussing Zero's transfer to the Night Class. Yuki goes to the Night Class dorms to convince Kaname to stop the transfer. Kaname refuses, noting that Zero will ultimately become a Level E vampire. Meanwhile, Zero ponders shooting himself with his anti-vampire gun, and is stopped by Yuki. He later attempts to run away from the school, and Yuki stops him again.

"Feast in the Moonlight""Gekka no Sabato" (月下の饗宴)
Kaien gives Yuki a protection bracelet that would stop Zero if he attempts to bite her again. A new ethics teacher,
Toga Yagari, joins the school, and in his first class, Zero leaves. In the town, a Level E vampire attacks Yuki and Zero, and they are saved by Night Class students Takuma Ichijo and Senri Shiki, who explain that they were hunting the Level E as part of their duties as noble-class vampires. Takuma invites Yuki and Zero to his party, in which Kaname explains to Yuki the continuing battle between vampires and vampire hunters. Zero, uncomfortable by the presence of so many vampires, leaves. Yuki follows him and Zero attempts to bite her. Yuki pulls Zero into a pool, and Yagari, revealing himself as a vampire hunter, shoots Zero in the shoulder.

"Their Choice""Karera no Kuraimu" (彼等の選択)
Yagari explains that he is Zero's teacher, and sacrificed one of his eyes to save him in the past. He prepares to kill Zero, and Yuki shields him. Kaien arrives and convinces Yagari to leave. The following day, Zero is missing from class and Yagari tells Yuki that he isolated Zero in the headmaster's guest room. Yuki goes to Zero, and he describes a previous incident he had with a Level E before drinking more of Yuki's blood. Later, Yuki meets Kaname, who realizes that Zero drank Yuki's blood. Yagari arrives and asks Kaname why he has not killed Zero. Kaname replies that he fears he would lose Yuki's affection if he did so. The following day, Zero and Yagari are absent from class, and Yuki finds Yagari pointing his gun at Zero again. Yuki convinces Yagari to leave, and he tells Zero that Shizuka Hio is still alive.

"Scarlet-Colored Labyrinth""Hishoku no Rabirinsu" (緋色の迷宮)
During his target practice, Zero reveals that he can sense Yuki's feelings for Kaname through her blood. In a flashback, Yuki recalls when Kaien adopted her and that she was initially fearful of Kaname before becoming close to him. When Kaien brought Zero into the household, he explained to Yuki that his entire family had been killed by a vampire. Shortly afterwards, Kaien established the Cross Academy with the Day Class and Night Class, which infuriated Zero. After class one day, Yuki attempted to visit Kaname, and saw him drinking the blood of
Ruka Souen. Afraid, Yuki ran away. In the present, Zero finds Yuki asleep and is tempted to drink her blood when Kaname appears. He explains to Zero that the only reason he has not killed him is to keep him alive for Yuki's sake.

"Gunshot of Lamentation""Nageki no Burasuto" (嘆きの銃声)
Kaname refuses to leave his room, a decision that worries most of the Night Class students. Shortly afterwards, Takuma reveals that his grandfather,
Asato Ichijo, a member of the Vampire Council, plans to visit the Academy. Kaname leaves his room to greet Ichijo, who attempts to drink Kaname's blood. Hanabusa and Ruka stop him, explaining that attempting to draw blood from a pureblood vampire is taboo. Kaname hits Aido for overstepping his authority, and later declines Ruka's offer to drink her blood. Later, Ichijo tells Takuma to continue to serve Kaname but keep watch on him. Yuki and Zero take Ichijo to Kaien, who assigns Zero to hunt down a Level E vampire. Yuki follows him and learns that Shiki and Rima Touya have been assigned by the Vampire Council to hunt the same vampire. Zero ultimately kills the vampire, and a girl, who had been watching the incident through the eyes of a raven, announces to a man beside her that she will attend Cross Academy.

"Red Gaze""Kurenai no Aizu" (紅の視線)
Zero dreams about Shizuka Hio, who cradles him in her arms in his dream. The members of the Day Class are excited over an upcoming ball, which they will attend with the Night Class students. Kaien asks Yuki to guide a transfer student to the Night Class,
Maria Kurenai. When Maria attends class with the Night Class students, they are surprised by her boldness towards Kaname, and Hanabusa realizes that Maria resembles Shizuka Hio. Maria encounters Yuki and Zero, who points his gun at her. Unsure whether Maria is Shizuka, he allows her to leave. Hanabusa voices his concern that Maria resembles Shizuka to Akatsuki. Hanabusa later talks to Zero, who asks if Maria has any connection to Shizuka. Hanabusa reveals that Zero should know the answer, as he has a blood bond with Shizuka. That evening, Kaname asks Takuma to observe Maria. Meanwhile, Maria playfully pretends to bite her companion in her room.

"Princess of Darkness""Yami no Purizunā" (闇の姫)
Zero remembers telling his twin brother,
Ichiru Kiryu to flee after Shizuka’s attack. Maria attempts to meet Yuki, and Zero tells Yuki to avoid her. Zero begins to tutor Yuki to help her with her exams, and Zero reveals that Yuki is the only reason he is alive. Maria talks with Kaname, who claims that he knows that she is not Maria. Zero attempts to fight Maria, but is unable to attack her. Kaname erases Yuki's memory of the incident, and Maria has her servant take Zero away. The following day, Yagari confides to Kaien that Kaname's kindness to Yuki is strange, and Kaien comments that Kaname told him to admit Maria and allow him to handle her. Maria unlocks Yuki's memory of Zero's fight, and offers to save Zero from becoming a Level E if she helps her. Meanwhile, Zero recalls that he and Ichiru saw Shizuka before her attack, and that after the attack, Ichiru was standing next to Shizuka smiling. Zero awakens and greets Shizuka's servant, realizing that he is Ichiru.

"A Wish's Price""Nozomi no Dīru" (望みの代償)
Ichiru reveals that he felt inferior and worthless in comparison to Zero, and this led to him to ally with Shizuka. Ichiru attacks Zero and their fight is stopped by Yagari, who is stabbed in the shoulder by Ichiru's sword. Zero takes Yagari to Kaien, and Yagari tells Kaien that Ichiru has returned. Yuki recalls Maria's proposal to save Zero: either give Maria her blood or kill Kaname. Yuki allows Zero to feed on her blood while mulling on Maria's proposal. Kaname gives Yuki a ball dress, and during the ball, they dance on the terrace. Yuki accuses Kaname of treating her like a child, and Kaname claims that he simply wishes to protect her. Yuki leaves to talk with Maria, and Zero searches for her. Meanwhile, Hanabusa and Akatsuki find Shizuka's real body, and
Seiren, a Night Class student, tells them that Kaname has ordered them to leave it alone.

"The Pure-blood Vow""Junketsu no Puraido" (純血の誓い)
Yuki tells Shizuka to drink her blood in exchange for saving Zero, and Zero arrives to stop her. Shizuka uses her voice to compel Zero to restrain Yuki, and he breaks the compulsion by shooting himself in the leg. He injures Shizuka, and she leaves after Ichiru arrives. Ichiru begins to fight Zero, and Yuki stops their fight. Ichiru threatens to kill Yuki, and in response, Zero points Bloody Rose at Ichiru's head. Ichiru reveals that the gun cannot harm him, as Shizuka never changed him into a vampire. Meanwhile, Yagari continues to argue with Kaien, who claims that he cannot interfere with vampire affairs under Kaname's jurisdiction. Shizuka goes to Kaname's room, and he pierces her heart with his hand. As he drinks her blood, he vows to destroy their mutual enemy. Realizing that Shizuka is injured, Ichiru leaves and finds Shizuka's body.

"Crimson Chain""Shinku no Ringu" (深紅の鎖)
As Ichiru is crying at her side, Shizuka tells him about her past engagement to a pureblood vampire. However, she fell in love with a human and turned him into a vampire. He was executed by Ichiru's parents because Shizuka's fiancé had changed the list of vampires to be executed by the Hunter's Association. Ichiru leaves with Shizuka's body and when he meets Zero, he relates the hatred he feels for him. Zero collapses shortly afterwards due to his blood thirst. Akatuski arrives and tells Kaname that he believes that Zero killed Shizuka. The following day, Yuki asks Kaien about Zero's condition, and later confides her guilt about Zero's pain to Kaname. Kaname goes to Zero's room and forces Zero to drink his blood to alleviate his madness, claiming that keeping him alive is for Yuki's sake.

Season 2: Vampire Knight Guilty

"Sinners of Fate""Shukumei no Giruti" (宿命の罪人達)
While separating the Day Class students from the Night Class students to allow them to go to class, Yuki accidentally calls Zero Kaname, which angers him. That evening, Maria awakens and tells Zero that Shizuka was seeking the pureblood vampire who changed the execution list of the Hunter's Association that resulted in the death of her lover. Yuki is attacked by vampires sent by the Vampire Council to execute Zero for killing Shizuka, and Zero saves her. Before the remaining vampires can attack, the Night Class students appear, and Kaname orders the Council assassins to leave. When Kaname insinuates that Zero was the one who killed Shizuka, Yuki claims that she will not speak to him until he admits Zero is innocent. Later, Zero dreams about Shizuka, and awakens calling Yuki's name. When Yuki comes to comfort him, he nearly kisses her, but stops.

"The Eternal Promise""Eien no Paradokkusu" (永遠の約束)
Yuki and her friend
Yori walk through the nearby town, and encounter a lost boy. Yuki offers to take him back to his parents, and the child takes her to an abandoned building. He kisses her in gratitude, which knocks Yuki unconscious. She awakens to find Kaname watching her. Kaname reveals that there is a party for vampires in the building, and asks Yuki not to leave the room. Meanwhile, Zero has been assigned to oversee the party by the Hunter's Association. The child goes to Yuki's room to apologize, and Yuki follows him. She views the party as Kaname enters, and Hanabusa's father offers his daughter in marriage to Kaname. Yuki returns to her room, and Kaname returns. He lies down beside her, and asks if she wants to be a vampire and live forever with him. She agrees, and Kaname claims he would never force her to become a vampire.

"The Lapis Lazuli Portrait""Ruridama no Mirāju" (瑠璃玉の肖像)
The students of the Cross Academy leave for the holiday, and Rima, Ruka, Kaname, Akatsuki, and Takuma go to the Aido family residence; however, Hanabusa stays on campus. Shiki goes to his home rather than the Aido residence, as he was summoned by his uncle. In the Night Class dorm, Hanabusa recalls asking Akatsuki to investigate Kaname's family while at the Aido residence. Hanabusa goes to the Day Class dorm, and meets Yuki and Zero, who makes dinner for him. Afterwards, Hanabusa takes a bath and recalls meeting Kaname when he was younger, noting the change in his personality before and after Kaname's parents died. While making dinner, Yuki cuts herself and tells Zero to drink the blood, a scene witnessed by Hanabusa. He returns to the Night Class dorm and enters Kaname's study, where he realizes Kaname is planning something.

"The Devil's Quickening""Akuma no Ribidō" (悪魔の胎動)
Shiki's uncle takes him to a man immersed in a tub of blood, and claims that he is Shiki's father. Shiki's father awakens and asks Shiki to lend him his power. Seiren informs Kaname of this, and Kaname returns to the Academy. Meanwhile, Yuki is recalling her conversation with Zero when she hallucinates that her bath is filled with blood. Zero suggests that she look in the records of the Hunter's Association for clues about her past. They travel to the Hunter's Association headquarters, where Yuki discovers that Kaien was formerly a vampire hunter. The Association president confronts Zero, and reveals he can only save himself from becoming a Level E by drinking a pureblood vampire's blood or reversing the "Cursed Twins". Outside, the book Yuki is reading bursts into flames. That evening, Zero tells Chairman Cross about the Cursed Twins and goes up to visit Yuki, who's sat alone in her room. She is so upset about what happened at the Association and the fact she can't remember any of her memories, she cries in Zero's arms all night. Also that night, Hanabusa confronts Kaname about his plans, and Kaname reveals that his parents were murdered. Meanwhile, Takuma meets his grandfather, who addresses Shiki as his lord.

"The Subordinate's Trap""Jūzoku no Torappu" (従属の罠)
Yuki continues to hallucinate that her surroundings are drenched in blood, and is determined to ask Kaname about her past. Zero allows Ichiru to join the Day Class, and Kaien hopes that the brothers can repair their relationship. During her night patrol, Yuki hallucinates that blood is on her hand and she inadvertenly attacks Kaname. Kaname comforts her and tells her that he loves her. Zero confronts Kaname about Yuki's memories, and Kaname forces Zero to drink his blood to stop his transformation into a Level E vampire. Yuki resolves to talk with Kaname, and Kaname reveals that he is worried that Yuki will hate him when she learns the truth about her memories. Yuki claims that she could never hate him, and Kaname asks Yuki to become his lover to prove her devotion.

"The Fake Lovers""Itsuwari no Ravāzu" (偽りの恋人)
Kaname orders several Night Class students to guard Yuki after she agrees to become his lover. Yuki begins to have nightmares and continues to see images of blood on everything she sees. When she collapses from these images, she is taken to the infirmary, where Ichiru attempts to give her a vial of blood, and he is stopped by Hanabusa. Yuki meets with Kaname, and due to the awkwardness of their meeting, cannot ask any questions about her past. Yuki and Kaien invite Ichiru to dinner with Zero, but Yuki brings up that she saw Ichiru in the infirmary and thought he was Zero. Zero's furious response to this causes Ichiru to leave. Shiki and Takuma return to the Night Class dorm, and Rima realizes that someone is possessing Shiki after seeing that one of his eyes is colored red.

"The Thorny Kiss""Ibara no Kisu" (茨の口づけ)
Shiki approaches Kaname and Kaname realizes that he is possessed by
Rido Kuran, Kaname's uncle. Kaname attacks Shiki, but Takuma stops him, claiming that he will not allow Kaname to harm Shiki. Yuki begs Kaname to return her memories, and she collapses in his arms after hallucinating again. Kaname takes Yuki to Kaien, who reveals that it is time to awaken Yuki. Yuki awakens in her bed and hallucinates that the room is covered in blood. When Zero comes into the room, Yuki involuntarily attempts to strangle him. After Zero offers no resistance, he tells her that she needs Kaname more than she needs him. Kaname arrives and takes Yuki onto the roof of the building. He bites her, drinks his own blood, and transfers his blood to Yuki by kissing her. Zero arrives, furious that Kaname has turned Yuki into a vampire, and Yuki reveals that Kaname is her older brother.

"The Spiral of Recollection""Tsuioku no Supairaru" (追憶の螺旋)
Kaname leaves with Yuki, who recalls that her father,
Haruka Kuran, died fighting Rido, and that her mother, Juri Kuran, sacrificed herself to seal Yuki's memories and transform her into a human. Kaname meets Akatsuki and Hanabusa, and reveals that Yuki is his sister and his fiancée. Upon awakening, Yuki drinks Kaname's blood, and is saddened that Juri and Haruka sacrificed themselves to save her. Yuki realizes that her parents were siblings, and Kaname reveals that they are engaged. Kaname orders the Night Class students to keep the Day Class students in their dorms. Meanwhile, Rima battles Shiki, and is seriously injured; however, she pleas to Shiki to regain control, and Rido is unable to move Shiki's body. Yuki decides to talk to Zero, and despite Akatsuki's and Hanabusa's pleas, goes to the Day Class dorms. When Yuki arrives at the door to Zero's room, she senses that Zero has pointed Bloody Rose at her.

"The Revived Crazed Emperor""Fukkatsu no Enperā" (復活の狂王)
Zero claims that he can only sense an arrogant pureblood vampire on the other side of the door, and Yuki accepts this, revealing that the vampire side of her ate the other side. She leaves the dorm and Hanabusa brings her shoes. As Yuki begins to cry, Hanabusa reveals that it is unheard of to see pureblood vampires cry. Meanwhile, Kaname goes to where Rido's original body is kept, and asks Ichiru to open his coffin. He claims that he is surprised to see Ichiru, as twins in vampire hunter families attempt to consume one another when they are in the womb. Kaname takes Ichiru's sword and stabs his hand to give Rido the necessary blood to revive. As Kaname leaves, he reveals that he is the original member of the Kuran family, and Rido summoned him from his slumber, rendering Kaname unable to kill Rido. Kaien and Yagari meet, and Zero arrives, asking Yagari to kill him. Yagari refuses and leaves in a room as Zero reminisces about what Yuki said to him.

"The Battle's Prelude""Tatakai no Pureryūdo" (戦いの序曲)
Yuki sees the sun for the first time as a vampire, and returns to her room with Hanabusa. Yagari confronts the vampire hunters sent to take Zero, and demands that the Association president come. Kaien and Yagari gather the Day Class students to evacuate them, and many are attacked by Rido's vampire servants. The Night Class students dispatch them, and when Yori is attacked by one of Rido's servants, Yuki attempts to defend her. However, her anti-vampire staff, Artemis, rejects her, and Hanabusa kills the vampires. When Yuki tells Yori she is a vampire, Yori accepts this, telling Yuki that she is her friend. Yuki returns to her room and dreams of Shizuka. She is awakened by Kaname, and asks to stay to defend her friends. Kaname refuses, claiming that he had spent ten years protecting Yuki, and asks her to stay in the room. After Kaname leaves, Yuki convinces Hanabusa to allow her to leave and takes a gun from the room.

"Our Two Lives""Futari no Raibuzu" (二人の命)
Kaien is confronted by the Association president, who demands that Kaien give him Zero. Kaien refuses and fights the Association president, forcing him to retreat. As Zero sits in silence, Kaname arrives, claiming that Zero is the "knight" he has prepared for the past years to kill Rido. He reveals that Zero has been strengthened by drinking the blood of three purebloods – Yuki, Kaname, and Shizuka – and is the stronger twin child of a vampire hunter. When Zero tells Kaname to kill Rido, Kaname reveals that Rido will hunt Yuki, and claims that Zero will never betray Yuki. After Kaname leaves, Ichiru arrives and shoots Zero with the Bloody Rose. Zero recalls the close relationship he had with Ichiru when they were children, and remembers Shizuka killing his parents. Ichiru reveals that he was injured while attempting to kill Rido for Shizuka's sake, and asks Zero to consume him. Zero does so and leaves the room.

"End of the World""Sekai no Piriodo" (世界の果て)
Surrounded by his servants, Rido drinks their blood, and waits for Yuki to come to him. While the Night Class students battle Rido's servants, Yagari fights the vampires sent by the Hunter's Association. The Association president goes to Ichijo and asks for his blood to maintain his beauty; Ichijo kills him instead. Kaname goes to the meeting place of the Vampire Council and kills all of them except Ichijo, who manages to escape. As he leaves the building, Ichijo is confronted by Takuma, who uses an anti-vampire sword to fight him. Kaien arrives to fight the vampires sent by the Hunter's Association, and Yuki and several Night Class students leave to fight Rido. When they attempt to fight him, he instantly paralyzes all of the Night Class members, and attempts to drink Yuki's blood, Yuki transforms Artemis into a scythe and injures him. Zero arrives and is overcome by his power he acquired from Ichiru until Yuki slashes him with Artemis.

"Vampire Knight""Vanpaia no Naito" (ヴァンパイアの騎士)
Using his new power, Zero injures Rido with Bloody Rose and Rido flees to the surrounding forest. He attempts to drink the blood of his servants to recover, and is confronted by Kaname. As Kaname fights Rido, Zero arrives and kills Rido with Bloody Rose. Zero meets with Yuki to say farewell. When he reveals that he does not believe that Yuki is a vampire, he asks her to drink his blood, and she does so. Zero reveals that he will continue to kill purebloods and will ultimately kill Yuki. Yuki meets with Kaname, claiming that she wishes to protect him despite the pain he has caused her by protecting her the previous ten years. After Yuki says farewell to Kaien, she and Kaname leave the Academy with Hanabusa, Akatsuki, Ruka, and Seiren

Amu Hinamori
Amu Hinamori (日奈森 あむ, Hinamori Amu
?), the series' protagonist, is a student of Seiyo Elementary. Amu's classmates see her as "cool and spicy", but Amu is actually extremely shy and timid. Part of the reason for this misunderstanding is the trendy punk goth clothing her mother buys for her as well as the way in which she expresses her shyness and avoids doing new things which people interpret as 'cool'. However, when Amu wishes for the courage to be reborn as her would-be self, three colorful eggs appear the next morning, which hatch into Amu's three Guardian Characters: Ran, Miki, and Su. When one of her Guardian Characters Character Changes with her, she gets embarrassed because they make her speak in ways that she thinks are "totally out of character".
Because of her three Guardian Characters, Amu became a member of the Guardians, the school's student council, although she refused to join at first. Amu's position with the Guardians is the Joker. Her task, as the Joker, is to search for and purify X Eggs, X Characters, and in the second season, Mystery Eggs, the corrupted forms of people's would-be selves. Ran, Miki, and Su help Amu with her task through a process called a Character Transformation, which is enabled by the Humpty Lock and grants Amu special abilities depending on the Guardian Character. Later on, Amu also creates a fourth egg, known as Diamond. In the second season, when Amu shows her true potential, the Humpty Lock increases in power. Thus, new transformation scenes are used.
Amu's two main love interests are Tadase Hotori and Ikuto Tsukiyomi. However, she has minor crushes, such as Kairi Sanjo, Kukai Souma, and Nagihiko Fujisaki, but shows more friendliness. Amu's primary rival is Utau Hoshina, an idol singer for Easter who is jealous that Ikuto shows an interest in Amu instead of her. Amu gains the Dumpty Key from Yoru and uses it to unlock the Humpty Lock.
In the latest chapters, when Amu opens the Humpty Lock with the Dumpty Key, she and Tadase see more of Ikuto's past (their transportation being bubbles). Their journey ends when Amu Character Transforms with Diamond, and she and Ikuto fight briefly. Ran, Miki, Su, and Diamond all combine their powers, making Amu Character Transform into Amulet Fortune and Ikuto Character Transform into Seven Seas Treasure.

Ran (ラン?)
Ran is the first to hatch from Amu's eggs and represents Amu's desire to be more honest, confident and athletic. Ran is frequently cheering Amu on. During Character Change, Amu gains increased athletic abilities. During Character Transformation, Amu becomes Amulet Heart. Recently, in Chapter 38, Ran undergoes a new Character Transformation, along with Miki, Su, and Diamond; becoming Amulet Fortune.

Miki (ミキ?)
The second Guardian Character to hatch is Miki. Miki represents Amu's desire to be more sharp, level headed, and artistic. Miki is also the one to help Amu make fashion choices. Reflecting Amu's love interests, Miki has shown an interest in Tadase's Guardian Character, Kiseki, Ikuto's Guardian Character, Yoru, Kukai's Guardian Character, Daichi, and Kairi's Guardian Character, Musashi. During Character Change, Amu gains increased artistic abilities. During Character Transformation, Amu becomes Amulet Spade. Recently, in Chapter 38, Miki undergoes a new Character Transformation, along with Ran, Su, and Diamond; becoming Amulet Fortune. In Shugo Chara! Doki, Miki is the only one out of Amu's Guardian Characters to be able to sense Mystery Eggs clearly.

Su (スゥ, Sū?)
The third Guardian Character, Su, represents Amu's desire to be more caring, sensitive and improve her domestic skills. However, Su is prone to silly mistakes. She is very fond of Amu's teacher, Yuu Nikaidou, after helping Nikaidou realize that he was a good person and can still pursue his own dreams. Amu gains an improvement in cooking and sewing skills during Character Change, as well as becoming "too girly". During Character Transformation, Amu becomes the Amulet Clover. Recently, in Chapter 38, Su undergoes a new Character Transformation, with Ran, Miki, and Diamond; becoming Amulet Fortune.

Diamond (ダイヤ, Daiya?)
Diamond is Amu's fourth Guardian Character. Diamond represents Amu's desire to shine and be noticed in front of other people . She becomes an X Egg when Amu dislikes all the changes that were happening in the spring. While collecting X-eggs with Yukari, Utau finds Diamond's egg inside the box. She soon hatches into a X-character. Unusually, she is not shaped like the usual X-character; she looks like a normal Guardian Character, but with a white X-shaped clip covering her black diamond-shaped clip. Because of this, Amu doesn't know Diamond's true name. In the Japanese versions, Diamond's name is shortened to Dia. X-Diamond can Character Transform with Utau, becoming Dark Jewel, however, the transformation does not last very long. When Amu is finally able to prove to Diamond that she does have enough confidence to shine she reverts into her true original form. Together they undergo a Character Transformation, becoming Amulet Diamond. Afterward, Diamond returns to her egg until she sees that Amu "shines again", but secretly comes out as a spirit at times. Recently, in Chapter 38, Diamond comes back when Amu "shines". After character transforming and fighting with Ikuto, she, Ran, Miki, and Su combine powers with Amu; becoming Amulet Fortune.

Tadase Hotori
Tadase Hotori (辺里 唯世, Hotori Tadase
?) is a boy in the same year as Amu and serves as King's Chair of the Guardians. Like Amu, he is actually a shy person and is not good at public speaking; instead, he Character Changes with his Guardian Character, Kiseki. Although he is popular with the girls, when a girl confesses their love to Tadase, he will have Kiseki reject her. However, whenever he hears the word "ouji" ("prince"), or anything resembling the word "ouji", he Character Changes into an egotistical king who seeks world domination. Amu develops a crush on Tadase soon after she transfers into the school. His love interest is Amulet Heart, Amu's Character Transformation with Ran, but it later becomes Amu herself. In episode 39, Kiseki's egg turns into an X-egg because Tadase lost his self esteem by not being able to find the Embryo. With the help of Amulet Heart, Tadase turns back to normal. Tadase has known Ikuto and Utau since childhood, but he does not talk about it in detail until the Guardians are about to face Utau in their final battle. Amu and Tadase reconcile soon after, though. Later on, he agrees to help Amu save Ikuto from Easter. Tadase confesses his love for Amu in chapter 28 (episode 74 in the anime) while Ikuto was hiding in Amu's closet. Ikuto over heard and made fun of Tadase, only to protect him, which he knew nothing about. When Tadase was facing against Ikuto in chapter 35, his staff becomes a sword called Royal Sword.

Kiseki (キセキ?)
Kiseki is Tadase's Guardian Character. Kiseki was born for a combination of Tadase's desire to be stronger and the dream of world domination. Because of this, Kiseki is extremely egotistical and often demanding, and doesn't like obeying others. He frequently calls other Guardian Characters to go on "Special Secret Meetings." A
running gag is that the other Guardian Characters will ignore him sometimes. Kiseki is aware of Tadase's crush on Amu and acts the same way as Amu's Guardian Characters whenever Tadase seems to be confessing to Amu. Kiseki holds a grudge against Ikuto's Guardian Character, Yoru. During Character Change, Tadase gains the confidence to overcome his shyness. However, sometimes Tadase will become an egotistical person who seeks world domination. Although Tadase could not Character Transform with Kiseki at first, they later gain this ability with the help of Amu after Kiseki's egg gets tainted with an X, becoming Platinum Royale.

Ikuto Tsukiyomi
Ikuto Tsukiyomi (月詠 イクト, Tsukiyomi Ikuto
?) is a teenage boy contracted by Easter to find the Embryo. He often helps Amu even though he works for Easter. Ikuto actually despises Easter and tries to wrench himself free from them by trying to find the Embryo to grant his own wish. He possesses the Dumpty Key which pairs with Amu's Humpty Lock which at first did not fit in the keyhole. Like his father, Ikuto is a skilled violinist. The Dumpty Key used to belong to him, but the Dumpty Key is believed to belong to Tadase's father, but it actually belongs to Aruto, Ikuto's father. His mother, upon marrying someone else after they found her husband's violin in a foreign country and believing that he would not come back, bound her children into working for Easter. Ikuto's personality is aloof, stoic, and a little naughty. He likes teasing people, especially Amu and Tadase. He is also the older brother of Utau Hoshina. As the series goes on, he grows very strong feelings for Amu — he confessed that he loves her in the same chapter Tadase did, although she believes that he is teasing her. He later surrendered himself to Easter, not wanting to get anyone else involved in the mess he made. In the manga timeline, it is shown he Character Transformed with a new black Guardian Egg to become Death Rebel, shocking Amu. In chapter 37, Tsukasa told Ikuto he resembles his father when he yells. In chapter 38, he Character Transforms with Yoru and the black egg into Seven Seas Treasure. In chapter 39, it's said that Ikuto may have two eggs, one is possibly still inside him. In the latest chapter, Ikuto calls Amu 'princess' and she replies by asking him to thank her for making him get back to normal. Ikuto swears that this time he will be the one to protect her, along with Tadase.

Yoru (ヨル?)
Yoru is Ikuto's cat-like Guardian Character and represents Ikuto's desire to be free. Yoru often goes out by himself and enjoys causing trouble for the Guardians and their Guardian Characters for fun. When Ikuto and Yoru undergo a Character Transformation, they become Black Lynx. Yoru is hysterical when Ikuto does the Death Rebel Character Transformation in chapter 31. Lately, he also can't track Ikuto, because the hypnotizing fork confuses him. Later on, when Amu and Tadase find Ikuto being controlled by Easter, Yoru takes the Dumpty Key and gives it to Amu. In chapter 38, he along with the black egg, combine powers with Ikuto to become Seven Seas Treasure.

Utau Hoshina
Utau Hoshina (ほしな 歌唄, Hoshina Utau
?) is a junior high student model turned singing idol. She is actually Ikuto's younger sister, Utau Tsukiyomi (月詠 歌唄, Tsukiyomi Utau?). Utau had tried to find the Embryo to release her brother from Easter, but she never succeeded. Utau is very attracted to Ikuto and becomes extremely jealous of Amu because Ikuto shows an interest teasing her. She kissed him in episode 29. However, she eventually accepts Amu.
She was the vocalist of the
indie band "Black Diamond" which is produced by her manager, Yukari Sanjo, as a method of using the CDs of their music to draw the eggs out of children and make them into X Eggs. When the plan fell apart, Utau quit Easter with her manager and became a singer on her own, without Easter contracting her.

Il (イル, Iru?)
The devilish Il is the first of Utau's two Character Guardians introduced in the story. Il seems mean and unkind, but it's just her character. Sometimes she can be helpful and sincere, but she dislikes nagging. She represents Utau's energetic and playful side. During Character Transformation, Utau becomes Lunatic Charm, with the attack Nightmare Lorelei and later, Dream Trident. When Il felt lonely because El wasn't there for her to tease and when she felt that Utau was ignoring her because of Diamond, she Character Transforms with Amu, becoming Amulet Devil.

El (エル, Eru?)
El is Utau's second Guardian Character and is the complete angelic opposite of Il. El often nags, likes correcting people about their choices that she considers wrong herself, and helps those who are troubled by love. Because El was treated badly by Il and ignored by Utau, she left home and wound up in Amu's care. El can perform a Character Transformation with Amu, resulting in Amulet Angel, which surprised Utau. However, as Amu is not El's real owner, the Character Transformation remains powerless with no real abilities. Whenever El performs a Character Transformation with Amu, Amu usually ends up being embarrassed due to El's over-the-top antics. El finally performed a Character Transformation with Utau, forming Seraphic Charm. Later in the manga series, Utau uses an new attack with El called White Wing to help the Guardians help Ikuto.

Supporting characters

Nadeshiko Fujisaki (藤咲 なでしこ, Fujisaki Nadeshiko?) / Nagihiko Fujisaki (藤咲 なぎひこ,
Fujisaki Nagihiko?)
Nadeshiko Fujisaki is a student in the same year as Amu and serves as Queen's Chair of the Guardians. When Amu rejected the offer to join the Guardians, Nadeshiko tries several tactics to convince Amu to join. The two become best friends and Nadeshiko looks over and supports Amu in her love life. However, before Amu and Nadeshiko enter the sixth grade, Nadeshiko leaves Seiyo Elementary for Europe to study dancing.
Nadeshiko is actually a boy named Nagihiko Fujisaki, called "Nagi" as a nickname by Amu and the girls. It is tradition in the Fujisaki family for males to be raised as females as part of their training so that they may play female roles in
Japanese dance. Nagihiko's secret is known by his family, Kukai, Tadase, the school's principal Tsukasa Amakawa, and as of chapter 34, Rima. After Kairi leaves the Guardians, Nagihiko returns and is appointed as the interim Jack's Chair.

Temari (てまり?)
Temari is Nagihiko's first Guardian Character. Temari appears to be elegant and Nagihiko's desire to be more mannered and become a Japanese dancer. However, during Character Change, both Temari and Nagihiko (as Nadeshiko) become aggressive and very masculine; Nagihiko, inadvertantly, also gains a
naginata, which he promptly uses. Prior to Nagihiko's return to the guardians, Temari went back into her egg to slumber. In chapter 34, Temari wakes up after Nagihiko realizes that it doesn't matter what gender a person is, it's effort that they put into something they do. They perform a Character Transformation: Yamato Maihime.

Rhythm (リズム, Rizumu?)
Rhythm is Nagihiko's second Guardian Character. Rhythm appears to be cool and outgoing, showing Nagihiko's boy self. Rhythm's egg was first seen in chapter 30 and in episode 56, but as of chapter 34, he hatches after Nagihiko remembers how much he liked playing basketball, at his own pace and rhythm, while fighting against a X Character. When in a Character Transformation, they become Beat Jumper.

Kukai Soma (相馬 空海, Sōma Kūkai?)
Kukai Soma is the upbeat and energetic Jack's Chair of the Guardians. One year senior to Amu, Kukai helps Amu with her training as the Joker. Although he was the captain of the soccer club, Kukai loves and excels at all sports. At the end of the school year, Kukai graduates and goes on to middle school. However, Kukai returns to visit the Guardians from time to time.

Daichi (ダイチ?)
Kukai's Guardian Character is Daichi. He is very good at sports and cannot seem to sit still. He was born when Kukai wanted to do many sports but had to choose. When Daichi and Kukai Character Change, Kukai becomes even more athletic. When Kukai and Daichi return for a visit, they Character Transform with the power of the Humpty Lock, becoming Sky Jack.

Yaya Yuiki (結木 やや, Yuiki Yaya?)
Yaya Yuiki is the childish girl serving as the Ace Chair and is one year junior to Amu. Yaya often acts immature for her age, such as having an enormous sweet tooth, a great soft spot for items like ribbons, as well as tending to be hyperactive. She is also a ballerina, though a rather clumsy one. She has a newborn baby brother named Tsubasa, who, she claims, gets all her parents' attention. It is because of this that her baby-like Guardian Character, Pepe, was born. Though she acts jealous around Tsubasa, Yaya does have a responsible side, once personally taking him to the doctor when he had a fever, as no other option was possible.

Pepe (ぺぺ?)
Pepe is a baby-like Guardian Character who was born from Yaya's desire to remain baby-like in nature. When either she or Yaya get hurt or something goes wrong, both of them will begin to whine and cry in unison. During Character Transformation, they become Dear Baby.

Rima Mashiro (真城 りま, Mashiro Rima?)
Rima Mashiro replaces Nadeshiko as the new Queen's Chair. Although Rima is the same age as Amu, she is extremely petite and has relatively poor athletic ability. Most of the boys in her class admire her because of her beauty and passive personality, while the girls are annoyed by her because of her selfishness.
Because of a kidnapping incident that happened before she transferred to Seiyo Elementary, her parents pick her up after school, but since it interferes with their work schedules, they often argue about who cares more for Rima over work, resulting in Rima often having no one but Kusukusu as company for her secret interest in gag comedy. Later, she opens up to Amu and becomes friends with her.
When Yaya explains to Rima about Amu and Nadeshiko's friendship, she is shown to be jealous. At first, she is shown to have great dislike for Nagihiko because Amu told Rima and Yaya that he is Nadeshiko's twin brother due to a confusion between the two. That leads Rima to be protective over Amu. She tells Nagihiko that he is useless because his Guardian Character is still inside an egg, but gains respect for him later on.

Kusukusu (クスクス?)
Kusukusu is Rima's Guardian Character and represents Rima's desire to make others laugh. When she Character Changes, Rima becomes a gag character (which she is embarrassed to use) and uses a signature phrase and pose: "Bala-Balance" (Balancing Balance) from the magazine Great Gag Manga King (ギャグマンガ大王, Gyagu Manga Daiō
?). During Character Transformation, Rima becomes Clown Drop.

Kairi Sanjo (三条 海里, Sanjō Kairi?)
Kairi Sanjo replaces Kukai as the new Jack's Chair when Kukai leaves for middle school. Kairi is tall, despite being two years junior to Amu. Unlike the spontaneous Kukai, Kairi is uptight, very organized, and blunt about faults. Even with these traits, he is so capable that Amu and Yaya call him "class president."
Kairi is the younger brother of Yukari Sanjo and was sent to spy on the Guardians. This wasn't his choice though, as Yukari immediately begged him to transfer to Seiyo upon discovering that he had a Guardian Character. Since his sister is busy at work, Kairi takes care of the household work (and his sister) in her apartment. However, when he saw the true meaning of his "missions," he tries to rebel against Yukari, but not before he reveals his secret to the Guardians when they accidentally discover him with Pestering CDs. He switches sides after Amu convinces him he is a good person. Afterward, he leaves saying that he promised his parents and local classmates that he would return, but not before declaring his love for Amu, saying that he shall return for her when he has become a man. He also declared a rivalry toward Tadase.

Musashi (ムサシ?)
Kairi's Guardian Character. Musashi has traits and the personality of that of a samurai. He also has some of Kairi's traits, such as green hair and glasses. When he Character Transforms with Kairi, they become Samurai Soul.

Yuu Nikaidou (二階堂 悠, Nikaidō Yū?)
Yuu Nikaidou is a former employee member of Easter. In order to find the Embryo, he joined Seiyo Elementary and became in charge of Amu's class in the disguise of a ditzy but kind-hearted teacher. His childhood dream was to become a robot
engineer, but when his mentor quit, due to his ailing wife, and his parents opposed the idea, he lost sight of his dream and became a twisted person. He recovered with help from Amu and Su. He resigned from Easter Company and officially become the teacher in charge of Amu's class. A running joke is that he calls Amu Himamori, meaning "leisure time". He dated Yukari Sanjo before the series began, and they broke up.

Yukari Sanjo (三条 ゆかり, Sanjō Yukari?)
Yukari Sanjo is a former employee of Easter Company, Kairi Sanjo's older sister, and Utau's manager. She came up with a new project, Black Diamond, to find the Embryo and mass-produce X Eggs. The CDs of the band were freely distributed and the people listening to it had their Eggs removed by force. As the band became more famous, their song is slated to be released to the Internet together with the unveiling of the band.
She and Utau resigned from Easter after Amu got Diamond back, and started their own music industry called Sanjo Productions. Yukari once dated Yuu Nikaidou, but the two have since broken up. She gets annoyed whenever their relation is mentioned.

Lulu De Morcerf (ルル·ド·モルセール, Ruru Do Morusēru?)
Lulu De Morcerf is an anime-original character in Shugo Chara!! Doki—. She is the new Easter Company worker who can turn Heart's Eggs into Mystery Eggs using a ruby necklace. Her mother is an actress and her father is a French chef. She wants to find the Embryo so her mother will regain her radiance and make acting history. At first, Lulu dislikes Amu for always purifying the people with Mystery Eggs and stopping the Embryo from appearing. However, in episode 63 of Shugo Chara!! Doki—, Lulu becomes quite kinder to Amu. As of episode 84, Lulu has been fired from Easter.

Nana (ナナ?)
Nana is an anime-original character in Shugo Chara!! Doki—. Her specialty is making jewelry. During Character Change, Lulu's hair clip becomes a purple flower. This allows Lulu to use her necklace to corrupt Heart's Eggs. Unlike Lulu's heritage, Nana has a
nagoya accent which results with Lulu sometimes speaking in the same dialect, which embarrasses her greatly. When Lulu used the accent in front of Amu, she complimented it by being cute surprising Lulu.

Minor characters

Midori Hinamori (日奈森 緑, Hinamori Midori?)
Midori Hinamori is Amu's mother and works as an editor for the magazine Housewives' Knowledge. Midori is the one responsible for choosing Amu and Ami's clothing styles. Unlike Amu's father, Midori is more understanding of Amu's relationship with boys. In chapter 31 when Amu was found out with Ikuto in the house, she believes her and seeks to find a place for Ikuto. In Chapter 33, Amu calls her, and Midori mysteriously tells Amu that everyone believes in her.

Tsumugu Hinamori (日奈森 紡, Hinamori Tsumugu?)
Tsumugu Hinamori is a wild bird photographer and Amu's father. Tsumugu is devoted to his daughters and refers to them with names like "Papa's little sparrows" and "Papa's shining stars." He is frequently shown taking pictures of Ami. However, he overreacts at the slightest provocation that Amu has a relationship with a boy.

Ami Hinamori (日奈森 亜実, Hinamori Ami
?)
Ami Hinamori is Amu's little sister who is innocent and pure-hearted. Ami is able to see Guardian Characters despite the fact that she does not have one. Unlike Amu, Ami is dressed in "Sweet Lolita" clothing. She respects and looks up to both Utau and Amu and loves to sing. She is a huge fan of Utau and played a big role in helping Utau to rediscover her good side.

Tsukasa Amakawa (天河 司, Amakawa Tsukasa
?)
Tsukasa Amakawa is the first King's Chair of the Guardians and their founder. He is the Seiyo Elementary superintendent and manages the planetarium as a part-time job. He is the artist of the book "Kokoro no Tamago" (The Heart's Egg). Tsukasa looks similar to Tadase because he is Tadase's uncle on his mother's side. In chapter 32, Tsukasa is seen in a photograph along with the Hotori family and the Tsukiyomi family. So when Ikuto ran away, Tsukasa took him in and apparently "kidnapped" him in Tadase's eyes. At first, he is thought to hold the Humpty Lock. He is a cat lover and has a liking for Ikuto's cat ears, often teasing him with catnip and food. In chapter 37, Tsukasa tells Ikuto 'he is not a grown up man.' Tsukasa also has a cunning ability to guess people's thoughts.

Gozen (御前
?)
Gozen is the head of Easter. The people of Easter Company refer to him as "Gozen," although it's revealed that his real name is Hikaru. Gozen promised the company employees a successful career if they can present him the Embryo. According to the manga, he wishes for a rare one-of-a-kind jewel, thus Easter's search for the Embryo. In chapter 40, it is revealed that Gozen is the little boy to whom Amu gave a
taiyaki and appeared many other times mysteriously. This little boy, Hikaru, is unique in that he did not have a Heart's Egg in him like almost all children. In Chapter 41, after his past is revealed, he finally gains one.

Kazuomi Hoshina (星名 一臣, Hoshina Kazuomi
?)
Kazuomi Hoshina is the managing director of Easter company, a middle-aged man who is also the stepfather of Ikuto and Utau, and the former superior of Nikaidou and Yukari. After his repeated failure to obtain the Embryo, he started fearing that Gozen may abandon him, so he forms a plan to brainwash Ikuto to collect X Eggs. In chapter 33, he realizes that the Embryo only shows up when X Eggs are purified, so he lures the Guardians into a trap. Ikuto refers to him as "Mr. Director."

Nobuko Saeki (冴木 のぶ子, Saeki Nobuko
?)
Nobuko Saeki is a spiritual fortune teller and has a praised fortune telling column in Housewives' Knowledge, although she dislikes the occult. She is 54 and likes miso peanuts. Her spiritual sense is so strong that she is able to see the Guardian Characters. She is the one who inspires Amu to wish to be a new person, meaning that she ignited Amu's wishes. In Chapter 33, she appears to help the Guardians into the Easter headquarters, saying that Amu is searching for someone precious to her. She is also fond of Tadase, probably because he looks so much like Tsukasa, who is one of the astrologers in her magazine.

Saaya Yamabuki (山吹 沙綾, Yamabuki Saaya
?)
Saaya Yamabuki is an egotistical girl in the same class as Amu and leader of the Tadase Fan Club. Along with the other club members, Saaya shows off whenever she gets the chance in order to impress Tadase, and Kukai, but to no avail. She is also very jealous of Amu.

Seiichiro Suzuki (鈴木 誠一郎, Suzuki Seiichirō
?)
Seiichiro Suzuki is a third grade boy who greatly admires Amu. He is often seen cheering for Amu, admiring her in someway, or proving to Saaya Yamabuki that Amu is a superhero or can save anyone from anything.
Captain Nanoha Takamachi (高町 なのは, Takamachi Nanoha?)
Age: 19
An experienced combat
instructor who, with her intelligent device Raising Heart (sometimes called Raging Heart due to the actual Japanese pronunciation the seiyū use) and her best friends, has done great work for the TSAB. Takamachi, commander of the Forward Stars Squad of Lost Property Riot Force 6 (機動六課, Kidō Rokka?), despite her sweet and optimistic personality, is an S+ (restricted to AA for routine operations in Lost Property Riot Force 6 due to bureaucratic limitations) rank mage (the third-highest possible ranking) who will use force to subdue someone if absolutely necessary.

Investigator Fate T. Harlaown (フェイト・T・ハラオウン, Feito T. Haraōn?)
Age: 19
Fate T. Harlaown is the commander of the Riot Force 6's Forward Lightning Squad and Nanoha's longtime best friend. Accompanied by the intelligent device Baradiche, she is also ranked S+ (restricted to AA for routine operations in Lost Property Riot Force 6 due to bureaucratic limitations), the third highest mage ranking. Fate's birth name comes from the
Ferrari Testarossa.

Lieutenant Colonel Hayate Yagami (八神 はやて, Yagami Hayate?)
Age: 19
Hayate is a quiet and caring young woman who possesses one of the most fearsome
Lost Logia that the universe has ever known. Ranked SS (restricted to about A for routine operations in Lost Property Riot Force 6 due to bureaucratic limitations), the second highest rank that a mage can attain (with SSS as the highest possible rank), she has a vast expanse of power that even the TSAB has trouble handling after ten years in the service. Lieutenant Colonel Yagami is the commanding officer of Riot Force 6, which she started, and is aided by Reinforce II, her unison device.

Reinforce II (リインフォースII, Rīnfōsu Tsuvai?, Reinforce Zwei)
A cute,
super deformed character—approximately 30 cm tall—that appears harmless, but is in fact a very strong reformatted Lost Logia. Easily annoyed but generally good-tempered, Reinforce II, Hayate's fully sentient unison device, is also her chief of staff.

Admiral Chrono Harlaown (クロノ・ハラオウン, Kurono Haraōn?)
Age: 25
Commanding officer of the TSAB Navy cruiser Arthra, the former command of his mother, Admiral Lindy Harlaown, who stepped down in favour of a calm desk job. He is one of two people with the authority to remove the limiters on Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate and restore them to their true power levels; however, he can and will only do such in a dire state of emergency. Chrono has done so once.

Second Lieutenant Vita (ヴィータ, Vīta?)
A member of Hayate's magical servants/family, the Wolkenritter, Vita is an eternal child, in both appearance and personality. Temperamental and vengeful, she works under Nanoha as sub-commander of the Stars Squad. She is named after the
Opel Vita.
Second Lieutenant
Signum (シグナム, Shigunamu?)
Voiced by: Kaori Shimizu
The Lieutenant is the leader of the Wolkenritter, the dutiful Signum works as Fate's sub-commander of the Lightning Squad. She is named after the
Opel Signum.Signum does not really do much training with the new recruits of Section 6, but she does help out on missions when necessary.

Shamal (シャマル, Shamaru?)
A soft-spoken member of the Wolkenritter that specializes in defense and healing. She is a medical officer. She is named after the
Maserati Shamal. She works in the Medical Area of Section 6.

Zafira (ザフィーラ, Zafīra?)
The lone male member of the Wolkenritter, this wolf-man, a member of the support force, specializes in hand-to-hand combat. He is named after the
Opel Zafira.Even though he can transform into a wolf-man, he does not through this entire series.

Yūno Scrya (ユーノ・スクライア, Yūno Sukuraia?)
Age: 19
A Mage and Archeologist as early as the age of 9. He currently works for TSAB as the chief librarian of the Infinity Library. He is named after the
Eunos series of cars.He does not appear much in the series this time around.

Arf (アルフ, Arufu?)
Arf is Fate's familiar. She does not play any major role in the plot nor does she make any major appearances. Sometimes, she is seen as a dog-girl and appears about the age of Vivio, maybe a little older.

New characters
Along with the new character designs, the series introduced new characters. This new roster includes:

TSAB

Private Subaru Nakajima (スバル・ナカジマ, Subaru Nakajima?)
Age: 15
Voiced by: Chiwa Saito
A young woman who appears to use the modern-Belka magic system and currently achieved Rank B, which is that of an average mage. Her intelligent device, Mach Caliber, is a pair of roller blades. She also possesses a second device, Revolver Knuckle, an armed device which is also equipped with a Cartridge System. The Revolver Knuckle once belonged to Subaru's mother, and comes in a pair, with Subaru's sister, Ginga, possessing the Revolver Knuckle for the left hand. Subaru was saved by Nanoha four years ago in a Lost Logia incident at an airport on Midchilda, and it was this incident that inspired her to join the Armed Forces. Subaru met Teana while in the military academy, and were paired up by their instructors due to the two being the only ones using non-standard devices. While at the academy, Subaru was also a victim of harsh criticism among her peers, due to her father being a higher up in the military and the assumption that she is getting special treatment. Subaru is extremely fast and strong, and had problems working alongside Teana during their training days as she had difficulty controlling her strength. Working under Nanoha as front attacker of the Stars Squad, she greatly idolizes her commander. Subaru is a bit naive about the military world -- for example, she didn't know about limiters or what a Lost Logia was -- which allows for exposition to both new viewers and those that have not read the manga.
Subaru, literally
Pleiades in Japanese, is apparently named after two Fuji Heavy Industries divisions, Subaru and Nakajima Aircraft Company; her name is written in katakana format which is usually used for non-Japanese, as she is a native of Mid-Childa.

Private Teana Lanster (ティアナ・ランスター, Tiana Ransutā?)
Age: 16
Voiced by: Mai Nakahara
Subaru's pigtailed roommate. Her handgun-like
device, Cross Mirage, uses a Cartridge System, and is considered a non-standard device, although she is schooled in the Mid-Childa magic system. The direction of the magic bullets that Cross Mirage fires can also be controlled by Teana. Teana is an orphan whom lost her parents when she was little, and was raised by her older brother ever since, though he is now dead. Teana met Subaru and were assigned roommates/partners in the military academy, and had been paired up ever since. Though she aspires to become a great Ground Combat Mage, her dream is to one day be able to take to the skies as a Sky Combat Mage. This feat will be very difficult for her because her magic ranking is considered too low and would make flight magic difficult. However, Teana is able to use magic to create illusions which is considered to be rare.[1]This B-rated mage takes on the role of center guard in the Stars Squad.
While the official website gives her name as "Teana", the opening animation calls her "Tiana". Her name appears to have been taken from the
Nissan Teana.

Private Caro Ru Lushe (キャロ・ル・ルシエ, Kyaro Ru Rushie?)
Age: 10
A pink-haired little girl with jewels on her gloves (which may be a reference to
Magic Knight Rayearth, as were the names of the Wolkenritter) that are actually a new type of device, a "Boost Device" named Kerykeion. She seems to have a magic circle that is light pink, but then it also shows that she has a magical square just like Lutecia. She first uses her magical square in episode 17 when she summoned the Dragon King to destroy. Though she is not proficient in attack magics, she is good at boost magics and can perform the unique summon magics. Her unique talent as a dragon summoner was frightening to the Ru Lushe clan, by which she was raised, and they banished her from their native land of Alzas. On the other extreme, the TSAB almost refused her because, though her talent was great, her skills were not refined. However, Fate T. Harlaown took her on herself. Caro appears to have a slight romantic interest in Erio. She is currently a Rank C mage, and is assigned to the Lightning Squad as fullback.
It has been speculated, given the naming conventions used for the other characters that are native to magical worlds, that her first and middle names together were modified from the
Mazda Carol. There is also a motor vehicle named the Caro.

Private Erio Mondial (エリオ・モンディアル, Erio Mondīaru?)
Age: 10
A boy whom Fate takes in and cares for, and the guard wing of the Lightning Squad. He uses an armed device named Strada. It is a spear (electricity attribute), similar to Signum's sword (flare attribute). He uses the modern-Belka magic system, but is also able to perform some Mid-Childa mobile magics like Sonic Move. Erio was adopted by Lindy Harlaown four years prior to StrikerS, as Fate was legally too young to do so. He is being monitored by the villain as a creation of "Project F", also known as the "
Project Fate" that created the character of the same name. He is currently a rank B mage and was also said to be an artificial human. Erio shows signs of a romantic interest in Caro.
Erio is named for the
Ferrari Mondial.

Friedrich (フリードリヒ, Furīdorihi?)
Friedrich is Caro's dragon companion, the Silver Flying Dragon (白銀の飛竜, Hakugin no Hiryū
?), raised by her since he hatched. He responds to Caro's commands and can grow to incredible size. Friedrich, unlike familiars, does not talk or have an alternate human or kemonomimi form.By Caro's request, he can grow into a full-sized dragon.

Voltaire (ヴォルテール, Vorutēru?)
Voltaire is Caro's guardian dragon, the Black Fire Dragon (黒き火竜, Kuroki Hi Ryū
?). He was first mentioned by name in episode 10, and is said in the StrikerS manga to be Caro's trump card. He is a fully summoned dragon, unlike Friedrich. Voltaire first appears in Episode 17 and appears as a humanoid-form dragon.

Ginga Nakajima (ギンガ・ナカジマ, Ginga Nakajima?)
Subaru's older sister. She belongs to Battalion 108 along with her father Major Genya Nakajima. When fighting, she uses the intelligent device Blitz Caliber which has the same dynamics as Subaru's Mach Caliber. She admires Fate for saving her from the fire four years ago. She joined TSAB in order to further investigate the death of her mother.
Ginga literally means
Milky Way or galaxy in Japanese.

Saint Church
Carim Gracia (カリム・グラシア, Carimu Gurashia
?)
A Knight of the Saint Church and a member of the TSABs board of directors. She's one of Mobile Section 6's supporters, and is viewed as a sister-figure by Hayate. She's a practitioner of the Ancient Belka system. Along with Chrono, she hold's the right to release the limiter on Hayate's magic. She is named for the
Toyota Camry Gracia. She uses cards to be able to tell the future of what will happen.

Schach Nouera (シャッハ・ヌエラ, Shahha Nuera?)
A Nun of the Saint Church and Carim's personal assistant. She is named for the
Mitsuoka Nouera. She can transform just like mages. She uses mostly wind attacks.

Scaglietti's Organization
Jail Scaglietti (ジェイル・スカリエッティ, Jeiru Sukarietti
?)
A highly dangerous criminal that Fate has been chasing for years, he specializes in Lost Logia, and his interests lie in "biological manipulation and control". He is responsible for creating the accidents surrounding the Relics, meaning to use them for an unknown purpose, and using the long-thought-lost Jewel Seeds from the first season to do it. According to Fate, he likes to toy with his pursuers, and is especially trying to provoke her and Nanoha. He was the founder of what would become
Project Fate - Precia Testarossa created Fate based on Scaglietti's research. He was also the one to fully realize the Combat Cyborg project, which would lead to the creation of the Numbers. It is later revealed that he was himself created by the TSAB's High Council in order to bring these projects about, being given a mind of great intelligence and "infinite greed". (How he was created is left unexplained.) In combat he uses an Inherent Equipment on his right hand to manipulate AMF (anti magilink field) and bind/attack his targets.
His name comes from the
Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, which got its name from the Italian coachbuilder firm Carrozzeria Scaglietti.
Numbers
(ナンバーズ, Nanbāzu?)
A group of 12 Sentoukijins(combat cyborgs) created by Jail Scaglietti as his personal task force, all named after Italian numbers. Each is gifted with a different Inherent Skill (IS), which is nonmagical in nature and is thus able to function normally within an AMF. As a result, they tend to work together with several gadgets. Furthermore, each Number carries a clone of Scaglietti in her womb which is set to develop into a fully functional copy of Scaglietti in possession of all the original's memories within one month of the original's death.

Key Characters
Lutecia Alpine (ルーテシア・アルピーノ, Rūteshia Arupīno
?)
A purple-haired girl with a strange mark on her forehead, she works for Jail Scaglietti and his mysterious superior and client. She is seen in the opening credits standing on a magic square, similar to the magic square of Caro's Mid-Childa summon magics, and uses a jeweled glove Boost Device like Caro does. According the her profile on the official website, her summons are Belka-based, which makes her different from Caro who uses the Mid-Childa system. Her summons include the small robotic
fly-like Insekt (インゼクト, Inzekuto?) and the human-sized Garyuu (ガリュー, Garyū?). Referred to in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS Starter Book as simply "mystery girl". Lutecia's Boost Device is named Asclepius, and it has black and purple Boost Drives.
Her name comes from the
Renault Lutecia, which is the Japanese market version of the Renault Clio. Her character design appears to be inspired by Rider from Fate/stay night

Vivio Takamachi (高町 ヴィヴィオ)
After found by Caro and Erio during their break, she was taken into Nanoha and Fate's care. Her most visible feature is
heterochromia. In episode 20, Vivio is revealed to be a clone of the "Saint regina" of the ancient belka world. In the end of the series, Nanoha officially adopted her as own child.
Her name comes from the
Subaru Vivio.
